The TABER® 5770 Linear Abraser tests both curved and flat surfaces and suits moulded products of all sizes. With optional attachments it can also run a wide range of other rub tests, wet or dry.

Description

The Taber Linear Abraser has a test arm that moves back and forth horizontally in a linear stroke. At the end of the arm is a precision spline shaft, forming a free-floating test assembly that can move vertically. The test head is mounted at the bottom of the spline shaft, with a weight support platform above it. As the arm reciprocates, the test head follows the contour of the sample and the assembly moves up and down. An infrared alignment aid helps position the sample so the abradant runs over the intended area.

Stroke speed, stroke length and test load are all adjustable. The control panel is a touch screen, with speeds from 2 to 75 cycles per minute. Stroke length ranges from 0.2 to 4 inches, with 11 settings.

The basic load of the spline shaft assembly is 350 g, including the test head, spline shaft and weight support. Three 250 g weights are supplied, and optional weights from 10 g to 250 g are available. The test load can go up to 2100 g. Accessories for reducing the load are also available: the 150 mm aluminium spline shaft and the plastic collet bring the load down to 60 g. Up to 999,999 cycles can be set, but note that the abradant may wear out before the test is complete.

CS-10 and H-18 Wearasers® are supplied. A Wearaser looks like a pencil eraser and is made of the same abrasive materials as the high-quality abrading wheels.
