Product overview

The ERICHSEN 290 Pycnometer is a cup-type density tester. It consists of a lid (with an overflow hole) and a cup body made of stainless steel or anodised aluminium (shown: metallic is stainless steel, black is anodised aluminium). It comes in two volumes (as shown): 100 ml and 50 ml. Each pycnometer is supplied with the manufacturer's test certificate, with an error within 0.2%. For greater accuracy, an official calibration certificate with an error within 0.1% is available from the manufacturer at extra cost.

Applications

The ERICHSEN 290 is mainly used to measure the density of coatings, other liquids and pastes. The 100 ml cup is general-purpose and suits all three; the 50 ml cup is mainly for pastes, which are easier to handle in the smaller cup.

Test principle

The ERICHSEN 290 is designed on the basis of the density formula: the density ρ of a substance is its mass m divided by its volume V, ρ = m/V.
