About the PosiTector 200:

How do you measure coatings on non-metallic materials without damaging them?
Many customers struggle with measuring coatings on non-metallic materials. The usual approach is to cut a cross-section and examine it under a microscope, but some samples are valuable, or cannot be brought into a laboratory. The DeFelsko PosiTector 200 Ultrasonic Coating Thickness Gauge measures their thickness non-destructively.
It works on the principle that a sound wave passing through a coating is reflected when it meets an interface between layers. The gauge captures the reflected waves and identifies and calculates them automatically, giving accurate, stable readings with very reliable accuracy and repeatability.
Because sound travels at different speeds in different materials, and the gauge calculates by default with the sound velocity set at the factory, the sound velocity may need correcting for different coatings. For many paint users, the gauge can measure straight away without adjustment; for special coatings, it can be adjusted at a single point by measuring a known thickness.
