ERICHSEN 415 Drying Time Tester (Germany)
DIN EN ISO / DIN
Product overview
The ERICHSEN 415 Drying Time Tester is a simple, convenient, practical tool. It consists of a sturdy metal base, a carriage that moves up and down against a pressure spring, an aluminium plunger and a sample table. Through the plunger, the spring can apply a maximum force of 250 N to the sample.
Drying time is tested to DIN 53 150. Besides assessing the rate of drying, a test to this standard can also show whether the coating has reached a specified degree of dryness within a time set by the user.
Evaluation to DIN 53 150 (after removing the load, assess the degree of dryness of the coating surface from the table below):
l Drying stage 1 – sprinkle glass beads on the coating surface, then sweep them off with a fine brush.
l Drying stages 2 and 3 – place a paper disc on the coating surface, then a soft rubber disc on top, and add a separate weight (20 g or 200 g).
l Drying stages 4–7 – place the sample on the sample table, coated side up; cover with a paper disc and then a soft rubber disc, and apply a load (2 kg or 20 kg) with the lever for about 60 s.
Drying stage | To DIN 53 150 |
1 | The beads can easily be swept off the surface with a brush. |
2 | With a 20 g weight, the paper disc does not stick. |
3 | With a 200 g weight, the paper disc does not stick. |
4 | With a 2 kg weight, the paper disc does not stick, but marks can be seen on the coating surface. |
5 | With a 2 kg weight, the paper disc does not stick and no marks can be seen on the coating surface. |
6 | With a 20 kg load, the paper disc does not stick, but marks can be seen on the coating surface. |
7 | With a 20 kg load, the paper disc does not stick and no marks can be seen on the coating surface. |
Applications
The ERICHSEN 415 is mainly used in R&D and quality control in the paint and varnish industries.
Test principle
The handle applies a defined force to the pressure spring, which drives the aluminium plunger downwards; through a precise lever mechanism, the force acts perpendicular to the surface of the coated panel.
